CAE Scholars Program Requirements

 

To apply for the CAE Scholars program, a student must:
  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above
  • Be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program at Wayne State University
  • Complete the CAE Scholars Application.   Please click here to print the application.   The following documents must be included with the application:
    • Two (2) letters of recommendation from a faculty member, academic advisor, and/or employer. 
    • Transcript of all work completed at Wayne State University (this may be an unofficial transcript).
    • A typed two-page statement of purpose.
To be a CAE Scholar a student must also do the following:
  • Meet the eligibility requirements
  • Successfully pass an interview with the CAE Program Director and/or Manager
  • Attend the mandatory orientation session for the CAE Scholars Program
  • Attend a minimum of six (6) sessions of the Great Decisions Workshops, sponsored by Detroit Council of World Affairs and the CAE Program.
  • Complete the CAE Program Course Recommendations with grade of "B"or better.

The CAE Program Course Recommendations are as follows:

 

It is recommended that each CAE Scholar complete 15 -17 WSU credit hours in courses that provide the following skill sets and core competencies:

 

  • Foreign Language(s) Proficiencies
  • Middle Eastern Awareness/Understanding
  • Far Eastern/Asian Competencies
  • International Relations
  • Analysis/ Analytical Reasoning
  • Research
  • Critical Thinking
  • Creative Problem Solving
  • Logic, Mathematical Reasoning
  • Geopolitical & Cultural Awareness
  • Familiarity with Core Businesses
  • Psychological/Cultural/Religion Awareness
  • Intuition of unarticulated Customer Needs
  • Comparative/Economic Analysis
  • Communications: Written & Oral
  • Electronic Data Optimization Interpersonal Attributes 
  • Integrity, Honesty 
  • Financial Analysis 
  • Program Planning 
  • Project Management 
  • Forecasting 
  • Leading Change 
  • Leading People

Upon acceptance to the CAE Scholars Program, specific courses will be recommended by the CAE Administrators.
